Cienfuegos is the most
brilliant tourist destination in the central part of the isle of Cuba and also
capital city of the province with the same name. It has a spectacular bay,
remarkably elegant in its neoclassical architecture, the birthplace of Benny
Moré and Aragon Orchestra; it hosts numberless cultural events throughout the
year, and honors its nickname “Pearl of the South”. Its Casas Particulares
(Private Lodging Facilities) offer the visitor a modern city and at the same
time full of traditions; one of the cleanest cities in the country.
The urban center of this city was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005. Around Marti Park, where the only Triumphal Arch of Cuba is located, rise the most significant buildings, such as Tomas Terry theater, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and Ferrer Palace, which offers a beautiful view of the city.
El Paseo del Prado is a large artery among monuments and remarkable buildings through the historical site to Punta Gorda; a residential area with typical wooden houses, numberless art nouveau villas and eclectic palaces of the early twentieth century whose emblematic building is “El Palacio de Valle”. At the entrance of the Bay, Jagua Castle, a fortress built in 1745 against pirate attacks, rises. At its feet lies Perché, a port and fishermen’s village.
For the beauty of its bay, water sports have taken great boom and give Cienfuegos a special distinction. Living together in a Casa Particular (Private Lodging Facility) in Cienfuegos guarantees the typical fun you can have in a coastal city with a huge potential for high quality beaches and great scenery, as well as the characteristic hospitality of Cuban homes and the enjoyment of an elegant and dynamic city.
